Another Time-lapse Video

Ever since I learned how to make a time-lapse video, I have been wanting to do one of rolling clouds.  Unfortunately, the weather had not been cooperating: it was either -30°C with no clouds, or it was completely clouded over and snowing.  Finally, yesterday was a perfect day for the kind of shots I wanted; so I set up the camera at our front window on a tripod.  Over 1,700 pictures were taken between 9:15am and 2:15pm (the batteries died).  Below is the result.

WOW, that looks really, really cool! I really have to figure out that hack. Might need another "tutoring" session on the phone sometime soon! BTW, everyone loves the tree house time-lapse video!

The shadows creeping across the bottom of the video really make it apparent how much time has elapsed. Very cool.

Thanks! This could well be my new hobby :) I was hoping to see the snow on the roof tops melt more rapidly.

Speaking of coolness, check out http://www.vimeo.com/2317118. Now that is cool.

Wow. I'd really like to figure out how to do THAT! Let me know when you've got it all worked out and can just give me a 10 minute tutorial okay? ;)

Unfortunately, the "real" miniature effect requires a digital SLR camera and a thousand dollar lens (namely, a "tilt-shift lens"). You can fake it though, but you will also have hundreds of images to fake to create a video out of it. I played with a picture from our 2006 Hong Kong/Shanghai trip and it looks like this. Google or search Flickr for "tilt shift" and you will find a lot of cool shots. This one looks like Bob the Builder.

That is really cool! I remember when I was in grade school, I drew stick figures in the margin of a textbook (while I was paying attention to the teacher, of course ;-) and created a little running man jumping hurdles and whatnot. Ah all that fun stuff.
